12 years since its inception PUNX is back to once again deliver the best and most forward-thinking electronic music that can be found on the planet. Helmed by Andre Tegeler – aka iconic German dance music mainstay MOGUAI – PUNX began life in 2001 presenting new and different releases to the world such as ‘The Rock’, ‘U Know Y’, ‘Get On’ and ‘Freaks’, which were championed by the biggest and best DJs including the likes of Pete Tong and Fatboy Slim. Now, new life has been breathed into the label and there’s a glut of masterful music on its way!
The increasing effect of the music industry’s digitization on the vinyl only imprint – and a resulting change in sound – brought about the hiatus from PUNX for MOGUAI and saw him release on other labels such as Size, Skint and mau5trap, with him bringing out his albums ‘LYVE’ and ‘MPIRE’ on the latter. MOGUAI now feels the time is ripe for a change and a return to thinking that brought about PUNX first time round:
“When I first started PUNX it was about providing a platform for different and exciting music. It was about sounds that were unique and didn’t conform. Right now dance music is getting to a point where more and more tracks are sounding the same, so to me it is the perfect time to revisit the original thinking and go against the grain. It’s a kind of revolution, where it’s not about how many units are sold but about providing DJs – and in turn audiences – with fresh sounds that they’ve never heard before.”
To help put this new transformation into effect, MOGUAI has teamed up with one of the finest dance music labels in the world – Spinnin’ Records. They recognize and share the same forward-thinking, finger-on-the-pulse nature that MOGUAI possesses and will lend extra expertise in carving a fresh path for electronic music. The first chapter in the new story of PUNX will be MOGUAI’s brand new single ‘PunkOmat’, which is set for release on Monday 24th June.
