This past weekend, WET REPUBLIC at MGM Grand celebrated its anticipated Grand Opening weekend as sun-kissed partygoers flocked to the ultra pool and danced all weekend long to the beats of Dada Life and Calvin Harris.

Kicking off the festivities was one half of the Swedish DJ duo Dada Life as he took over the daylife destination Saturday, April 5. Bringing the rules of Dada to the 2014 pool season, the energetic turntable master made his way to the DJ booth around 3 p.m. as WET REPUBLIC’s stunning staff paraded around the pool decks holding oversized inflatable bananas and champagne bottles high above their heads. As the bass dropped and Olle Corneer began his set, the gorgeous staff launched the pool swag into the air and the energy of the hot spot reached an all-time high. WET REPUBLIC was a sight to see as poolgoers kept the party going into the early hours of the evening.

As the celebration continued, international DJ sensation Calvin Harris headed to the“It” daytime party Sunday, April 6 and put on an unrivaled set for thousands of bikini-clad patrons. The GRAMMY Award-winning artist had the venue in full party mode as he played his chart-topping hits including the debut of his most recent single “Summer,” for the masses. Out now: Armada Sunset

APRIL 7, 2014

As the old saying goes… “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere”. In this great big world of ours, it’s also always sunset on a warm beach somewhere. Whether you’re lucky enough to be there right now, have a vacation planned in the not-too-distant future, or whether you’re just looking forward to summer, the ‘Armada Sunset' compilation is two brilliant sets of the feeling we know and crave.

The double set will instantly transport your body and soul to the twilight hours of your fondest memories, and it’s the perfect representation of that transient moment between day and night. Expertly straddling the border between relaxed and intense, ‘Sunset’ perfectly encapsulates the transition - the merging of two different worlds.

The first set keeps the vibe chilled out and slow, with plenty of low-tempo tunes to awaken the senses. The RodG chillout mix of Armin van Buuren feat. Fiora’s ‘Waiting for the Night’ is the mix getting into full swing, as it begins to pick up emotional steam. With stellar contributions from Lustral (‘I Feel You’), deep techy edge in ‘Party Like 2999’, and the genuine vocal beauty of Parra Vor Cuva ft. Anna Naklab’s ‘True Thoughts’, there’s plenty of variety and enchantment to entice and relax the busy mind.

The second set begins with the moody tableau of Paul Valentin’s Sommeil, a subdued track with unspeakable volumes of buried intensity. JK Soul’s ‘C’ brings back the old-school swing, keeping the atmosphere fresh and light. ‘Morning Light’ rounds out the eclectic nature of the second set, which makes extensive use of vibrant and creative textures and styles. Matt Lange and Booka Shade also make noteworthy experiences, as the set draws ever nearer to its triumphant finish.

Armada Sunset' is a strong reminder of just how diverse, captivating, and unique the music of today's most inspiring producers can be. In a sense, there's little that binds these records together other than a flawless DJ mix. 'Armada Sunset' is the sublime representation of the mixture of emotions that are present at the end of each and every beautiful day.

[Out soon] Protoculture - Music Is More Than Mathematics

APRIL 5, 2014

Cape Town, South Africa - for some, it’s one of the most remote locations on earth, practically the stuff of legends. For Nate Raubenheimer, the tip of the southernmost African country is home. Armin van Buuren has said of the man, “Everything he touches turns to musical gold.” Really, there can be no stronger endorsement, nor can there be a statement more accurate.

His is a classic tale - inspired at the age of 8, it wasn’t long before his life’s journey led him to audio engineering school, and ultimately, to the largest festivals in the world. Protoculture's fans are filled with an almost feverish adoration, the kind of hard-earned reputation that only someone with genuine talent can enjoy. Success hasn't been all roses for the producer, however, as his hometown is one of the worst spots to travel from for an internationally touring DJ.

'Music Is More Than Mathematics' is an appropriate title for this exceptional album, and there's absolutely no formula for what Protoculture does. If “awesome” could be bottled into a jar, it would be this record. Finding better descriptors is as pointless as trying to compete with his musical talents.

Even though each record radiates the artist behind the controls, Protoculture was able to attract talented producers, songwriters, and vocalists to help realize this record. Christian Burns, Johnny Yono, Max Graham, Jennifer Rene, and Tricia McTeague are some of the multitalented collaborators that made ‘Music Is More Than Mathematics’ possible, and their respective contributions seem to come at the precise time they’re needed in this musical journey.

Certain albums defy conventional logic, and certain sounds are so transcendental that it’s hard to see “trance” as anything but the right term. This is a special release, and one that covers as much territory as Protoculture’s frequent trips around the globe.

[Video] Matisse & Sadko “Sigure”

APRIL 5, 2014

Sizzling-hot Russian DJ/producers Matisse & Sadko are back with a brand-new hard-hitting single, “Sigure" (Doorn Records), out now. Supported by Armin van Buuren during Miami Music Week, debuted nationally on SiriusXM Radio and rocking EDM-lovers from the high-end fête at Baoli Miami to the wet ‘n wild clubbers of the Surfcomber pool, Matisse & Sadko’s club banger “Sigure” was an inescapable track of Miami Music Week 2014.

Inspired by a legendary Japanese destroyer named Shigure known for being as unsinkable as it was lucky, “Sigure” proves its mettle on a dancefloor as the track wreaks sonic havoc. The word in Japanese also evokes “sudden rain with wind,” and it is perhaps this more poetic, peace-loving image that the producers had in mind when writing the life-affirming drops of this track. “Sigure” is at once a call-to-arms for clubland’s diehard music lovers as it is a celebration of life.

Opening with an ominous fluttering percussion evocative of soldiers’ drums and the insistent chanting of ghostly warriors, “Sigure” builds with relentless fervor into a staccato, properly fist-pumping breakdown that will leave club-goers panting. A sensuous, haunting synth interlude ensues before the high-energy cinematic thrust of the chorus finally revisits the airwaves and the dancefloor erupts. Poised somewhere in the smoky hinterlands between electro, prog-house and downright pop, “Sigure” comes out of the loudspeakers firing on all cylinders.

The brothers Matisse & Sadko represent the contemporary wave of globally respected electronic dance music (EDM) producers in the vein of their fellow Russian, Arty. Matisse & Sadko have become tastemakers in their own right, having released “SLVR” last year on Steve Angello’s (of Swedish House Mafia infamy) imprint, Size Records. Other Matisse & Sadko releases include the wildly popular singles: “Riot” (Spinnin’ Records) with Arty; “Stars” (Doorn Records); “Hi Scandinavia!” (Armada Music); and a Matisse & Sadko remix of M-3ox featuring Heidrun’s “Beating of My Heart,” a track that gained coveted U.S. radio airplay last year.

As a live act, Matisse & Sadko embody the high-octane energy of their music, and few club-goers escape a Matisse & Sadko DJ set uncovered in sweat and without feet throbbing. “Sigure” has been tested on club and festival crowds and tweaked in the studio to its current state of aural bliss.

Last Night (April 3rd), Hakkasan Nightclub at the MGM Grand transformed into an unrivaled midweek affair as its newly added event series, Hakkasan Thursdays, took over with a special birthday celebration for internationally renowned DJ R3hab. As thousands of partygoers, industry leaders and locals alike filled the nightlife mecca; the Dutch turntable sensation manned the decks and had guests on their feet into the early hours of the morning.

Making his way into the main room of the nightspot just after 12:30 a.m., R3hab was greeted by the soaring excitement from his fans as opening artist Mark Eteson got on the mic to wish him a happy birthday. As confetti flew through the air the multi-talented DJ was presented with a four-tiered cake topped with his signature “I Need R3hab” sunglasses. Grinning from ear to ear, R3hab held his cake up high for his fans to see and the fourth level erupted with cheers from his adoring fans. Ready to get the party started, R3hab took center stage in the DJ booth and spun his hits including “Samurai” and “Flashlight,” both of which reached No. 1 on the Beatport charts this year.

The party did not stop in the main room as well-known DJ Shift had the third level of the destination filled with wall-to-wall clubgoers as he played his open-format hits all night long.

With the recent launch of Hakkasan Thursdays, the city’s most illustrious nighttime playground now offers a party experience tailored to locals, nightlife aficionados and more. Offering exclusive VIP services, world-renowned talent and impeccable production elements, the hot spot delivers Las Vegas’ most explosive industry evening week after week.
